Navigating Job Life Lessons: A Personal Journey

Chapter 1: The Struggle and Triumph of Education
Throughout my student years, I faced an uphill battle with self-harm, which lasted more than eight years. There were countless moments when I felt overwhelmed, doubting I would survive, let alone graduate. At times, I considered dropping out, but with the unwavering support of my teachers, I managed to push through.
When I finally earned my degrees, pride filled my heart. I had confronted an eating disorder that left me unable to eat for months, and after a pill overdose in my second undergraduate year, I spent ten days in the hospital. Looking back, I am astonished that I not only survived but achieved my psychology degrees—both bachelor’s and master’s.
Chapter 1.1: A New Beginning at the Daycare
I secured a position at a daycare in America, which initially seemed like a perfect opportunity. The pay and responsibilities were tolerable at first, but then I was asked to take on additional tasks like washing cooking dishes, vacuuming, mopping, and taking out the trash.
To my dismay, this left me with less than 15 minutes of actual interaction with the children, the main reason I had accepted the job. It felt as though life had dealt me a harsh blow. While I took pride in my degrees, I never considered myself superior to anyone else. The job description focused on caring for children, not cleaning duties. I believe I would have felt better had my employer been transparent from the outset.
Chapter 1.2: Finding My Voice
After mustering my courage, I approached my employer about my concerns. They mentioned that while they could let me go for now, they would consider bringing me back for a more suitable role once it became available during the day. They also encouraged me to explore opportunities at schools, where I could focus solely on working with children.
This news left me feeling disheartened. What had initially felt like a blessing had now turned into heartache.
Chapter 2: Holding On and Moving Forward
For two weeks, I clung to the job, not wanting to seem like a quitter. I hesitated to voice my complaints, holding onto the hope that things would improve. I held on because I believed in the goodness of people.
During this period, I began applying for other positions and have an interview scheduled for Tuesday. Despite the challenges, I am thankful for those two weeks of work, as they provided me with enough funds to have my credentials evaluated, allowing me to pursue a career in my field. Additionally, I gained confidence and acquired valuable lessons.
