Born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1970 to Errol and Maye Musk, his family's wealth stemmed from Errol's substantial stake in an emerald mine. This privileged upbringing included lavish vacations and luxury items. Errol Musk once remarked, "We were very wealthy. We sometimes had so much money we couldn’t even close our safe." Despite this apparent affluence, Elon faced severe personal challenges, including abuse from his father.
