Rediscovering Myself: Navigating Life's Uncertainties

Written on

Chapter 1: A Day Off for Reflection

On a day away from a job that doesn't quite fulfill me, I took a stroll from a loving home—one that I appreciate yet also feels like a weight on my independent spirit—to my go-to coffee shop. This place is where I seek clarity in life, especially when I linger in the discomfort of solitude.

Today feels particularly intense; it's one of those days where detaching from everyone and everything is vital for reconnecting with my true self. This is somewhat inconvenient since Back-to-School night is upon me, and my social anxiety is skyrocketing.

What are your go-to places or activities for self-reconnection?

I pack my essentials and make my way to my beloved coffee spot, where the brew is robust and the restrooms are usually tidy. I often find myself daydreaming about the financial success that will come from my future freelance writing endeavors. But for now, each morning feels like I’m under the weight of a massive elephant, struggling just to get through the day.

This morning, I posed the question that many vibrant women in similar situations ponder: What does one do after ending a fifteen-year marriage, relocating to her parents' house at thirty-seven, and trying to follow through on her commitments—despite feeling shaken by past trauma and fear—while still feeling lost like an astronaut adrift in space?

I don’t have a clear answer yet (I haven’t spent enough time reflecting). But at least my backpack, filled with my laptop and journal, feels like a Portable Life Support System (PLSS) for an astronaut exploring the unknown—providing the essentials I need to breathe and write as I navigate this journey.

“When they were on the moon, astronauts wore a Portable Life Support System (PLSS), which was the large box on the back of their spacesuits. This provided them with oxygen to breathe and removed the carbon dioxide they exhaled.” — Mr. Google

For now, I can continue to breathe and put my thoughts into words, tackling this journey one step at a time.

Thank you for joining me on this exploration. I appreciate each of you! 💖
