MacOS Applications for Developers - November 2023

In my spare time, I enjoy exploring new MacOS applications that can simplify my daily tasks. The variety of excellent apps available is truly impressive. Here are some of my recent discoveries:

1. Firefox Developer Edition

   

I was surprised it took me so long to find this app. As a developer, I often need to debug issues in the browser, and Firefox offers fantastic tools for this purpose. Whether you need to intercept HTTP requests, troubleshoot CSS issues, or make quick edits to your stylesheets, this browser is invaluable. Give it a try; you’ll be glad you did!

2. Fig

   

Fig is a terminal utility that allows you to install scripts and enhance your workflow with various functions. I was equally astonished that it took me this long to discover it. Its features include autocomplete and simplified editing of configuration files like .zshrc. Check it out; you won’t regret it!

3. Krisp: Noise-Canceling Application

   

Krisp is a fantastic noise-canceling tool for meetings. If you’ve used Windows, you might be familiar with NVIDIA's noise-canceling feature. After switching to MacOS, I missed this functionality until I found Krisp. It has significantly improved my calls by eliminating background noise from both my audio and my colleagues'. Try it out!

4. Dropzone

   

Dropzone is a shortcut tool for the most common tasks you perform on files daily. Need to AirDrop? Done. Post to Imgur? Done. Resize or convert images? Done. Upload to the cloud or download a video? All done with ease. It’s a simple app that becomes indispensable once you start using it.

5. Paletro: Command Palette Tool

   

If you’re accustomed to command palettes in IDEs like VSCode, imagine having that capability in all your applications. Paletro does just that by taking functions from the menu bar and placing them in a command palette. This is especially useful in Photoshop, where remembering menu locations can be tricky. Just press your shortcut, type the action you need, and you’re all set!
