Embracing Creativity: Tips for a Positive Mindset and More

Chapter 1: Cultivating Positivity

Hello everyone,

I hope you're enjoying a lovely Tuesday! I had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend with my family, highlighted by a delightful hike at Griffith Park and a barbecue with friends in Pasadena. Summer is finally upon us!

Thank you all for joining me, and I wish you a productive week ahead.

How to Foster a Positive Mindset:

I've always seen myself as an optimist. Even when faced with setbacks, I can find a silver lining that helps me navigate through the negativity. While I believe that optimism may be inherent, I also think it's a skill that can be cultivated over time.

Insight: A positive outlook tends to cultivate a hopeful approach to life. Dedicate a few moments each day to reflect on something in your work or life that brings you joy, and jot it down (consider both the what and the why). Dr. Hannah England outlines a wonderful approach to learning optimism in her article. Be sure to take a look!

Trusting Your Intuition:

Making decisions can be incredibly challenging, especially when both alternatives appear equally appealing. I often find myself overthinking important choices to the point of inaction.

Insight: Create a method to facilitate tough decision-making. I typically write about the choice at hand, consult trusted peers, evaluate my options, and then proceed when I feel informed. I also try to avoid prolonged indecision, as it can hinder progress and impact others' ability to perform their roles. This article provides excellent guidance on tuning into your intuition during difficult choices.

Pursuing Your Own Path:

The concept of running has become a powerful metaphor in my life. My career goals, writing projects, and even this newsletter require daily commitment to achieve lasting results without external distractions. It can be tempting to compare my progress with others, but that often leads to discouragement.

Insight: Focus on your journey rather than measuring success against others. Whether you're training for a marathon or advancing in your career, only you can define your accomplishments. Everything else is just background noise.
