# Embracing Abundance: Overcoming the Scarcity Mindset
Written on
Chapter 1: Understanding Scarcity
Is there such a thing as a scarcity mindset? Can individuals today transcend the challenges presented by scarcity? How can we draw on the 'Christ within us' to combat the pervasive scarcity in our lives? Reflect on this: "You possess everything necessary to ignite your journey toward your desired destination."
I am wealthy... I conquer scarcity.
(The Worldly Riches Series.)
The term "scarcity" is defined by the English Dictionary as a lack of sufficient quantity or supply; it signifies a shortage. In simpler terms, it refers to a state of inadequacy, where demand exceeds supply. Nowadays, scarcity is one of the primary challenges we face in life.
1. Defining Scarcity
In economic terms, scarcity is the fundamental reality that there is a limited supply of both human and natural resources. This limitation constrains the maximum production of various economic goods (Wikipedia).
Not enough...
Not accessible...
In higher demand than what is available...
2. Reasons Behind Scarcity
The Bible identifies three significant causes of scarcity:
- Divine Curses: Scarcity can result from a divine curse on a community. For example, during David's reign, a famine persisted for three consecutive years due to Saul's actions against the Gibeonites (2 Samuel 21:1 NKJV). Similarly, the Bible foretells famines as one of the signs of the end times (Matthew 24:7 NKJV).
- Demonic Oppression: Individuals or communities can suffer from chronic scarcity due to spiritual attacks, despite their education or hard work. As stated in John 10:10 (NKJV), the thief aims to steal, kill, and destroy, while Christ offers abundant life.
- Artificial Scarcity: Today, scarcity can also be manufactured to create class distinctions, promote luxurious lifestyles, and perpetuate cycles of poverty. This can stem from either demand or supply manipulation.
3. Recognizing Abundance
Despite the prevalent belief in scarcity, many essential resources remain abundant. Are these abundances intentional? Why do some resources never seem to diminish? Consider the following:
- Air
- Oxygen
- Sand
- Water
- Human connection
- Communication
- Generosity
- Outreach
"Money is spiritual, not merely materialistic," as Rabbi Daniel Lapin states. Many fulfilling opportunities require little to no financial resources. Can you identify these around you?
"You have everything you need to embark on your desired journey" (Matthew 25:29 NKJV).
4. The Scarcity Mindset
- Scarcity is not just a reality; it's a mindset.
- While scarcity is prevalent, it is not universal—where there is lack, there are also places of abundance.
- Acknowledging and connecting with the limitless God can reveal resources at any time.
- By focusing on what is available and fostering contentment, you can mitigate feelings of scarcity (Philippians 4:12 NKJV).
One day, I was reminded: "You possess everything necessary to ignite your journey" (pst tomowo).
Pause and reflect on this.
5. Strategies to Overcome Scarcity
- Understand Scarcity’s Psychology: Recognize that scarcity is a mindset and not an absolute truth.
- Focus on the Infinite God: Cultivate a deep understanding of God, the creator of the boundless universe. Embrace His love and promises for sustenance (Psalms 24:1 NKJV).
- Implement Kingdom Principles: Engage in financial practices aligned with God's kingdom. These include tithing, charitable giving, supporting parents, and contributing to the Gospel.
By adhering to these principles, you tap into divine provisions that can manifest as new ideas, business opportunities, and unexpected favors, leading to financial prosperity.
I am wealthy... I conquer scarcity.
I am wealthy... I uphold the Kingdom of Christ!
