Avoiding Burnout: The Pitfalls of Daily Writing Practices

Chapter 1: The Challenge of Daily Writing

I learned an important lesson about writing daily—it's not always the best approach.

Author reflecting on the challenges of daily writing

Surprisingly, the experience was quite positive! There were days when I didn’t manage to write anything, but I began to gain some traction. Before long, I noticed significant growth in my audience, which motivated me to continue working hard.

I experienced an influx of new followers in just one month!

However, as the month came to a close, so did my challenge. I must admit that this endeavor drained my energy. You might think it was due to a lack of passion for writing, but that couldn’t be further from the truth!

I genuinely enjoy discussing technology and tools like Obsidian. It's fulfilling to assist others with specific topics. Yet, the pressure to write daily took a toll on me. It felt as if each article required a recuperation period due to the creative energy expended. The relentless pace left me burnt out, and I didn’t allow myself any time to recharge. This struggle was entirely separate from my enthusiasm for writing.

The Mixed Outcomes

On one hand, my audience grew significantly in May; on the other, my writing output in June plummeted. I managed to write only a couple of pieces, feeling discouraged and overwhelmed by the effort needed to replicate my previous month’s productivity.

Once the challenge ended, I returned to a more manageable writing schedule. Yet, the exhaustion lingered. My minimal output in June resulted in mixed averages over the two months.

Yet, I’m back now with a renewed commitment to maintain consistency throughout the summer as I aim to support others in my unique way!

In this insightful video, "Why Authors Shouldn't Write Every Day," the speaker explores the potential downsides of a rigid writing schedule and advocates for balance in the creative process.

This video titled "I wrote with my left hand for a month" provides a fascinating look at the challenges and revelations that come with altering one's writing habits, encouraging viewers to think outside the box.
