Apple's Price Hikes Could Result in Significant Sales Losses

The Impact of Price Increases on Apple Sales
Recently, Apple unveiled its new iPhones, and contrary to expectations, there was no price increase in the US market. However, prices have surged significantly in many international markets. This situation raises concerns about potential sales losses for Apple. I believe there are three primary reasons for this.
Section 1.1 Consumers Are Struggling with High Prices
Taking Belgium as an example, it’s evident that price hikes have reached alarming levels. While countries like Italy and Greece are facing even steeper increases, Belgium isn't far behind. The iPhone 13 originally cost €899, and the 13 Pro was priced at €1159. In contrast, the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro now retail for €1019 and €1329 respectively—an increase of €120 and €170.
Moreover, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is now €220 more than its predecessor, costing €1479, which is exorbitant for a smartphone. For perspective, one could almost purchase an M2 MacBook Air for that sum! Additionally, older models like the iPhone 13 and 13 mini have not seen any price reductions, making it even less appealing for budget-conscious consumers.
These factors could deter many potential buyers from purchasing iPhones, especially during challenging economic times when luxury items are often the first to be cut from budgets. Although there will always be ardent Apple enthusiasts and affluent customers who remain unfazed by price increases, the average consumer—especially those from the middle or lower classes—will likely find these new prices prohibitive. For instance, my father had planned to upgrade his iPhone Xr but opted to hold onto it longer due to these steep hikes.
Section 1.2 A Feeling of Neglect Among International Customers
Apple's pricing strategy tends to favor the US market, leaving many international customers feeling undervalued. As a European, it sometimes seems like Apple prioritizes American consumers over those in other regions. iPhones have historically been more expensive outside the US, and features often roll out more slowly in Europe. While I understand that Apple, being an American company, may focus on its home market, price hikes limited to international customers send a clear message that we are not as valued.
If a company raises prices, it should do so uniformly for all customers. This disparity makes many feel reluctant to make new purchases from Apple.
Section 1.3 Android Alternatives Become More Appealing
With iPhone prices on the rise, it's only natural for consumers to explore alternatives. Companies like Samsung maintain consistent pricing globally, preventing customers from feeling overcharged. Moreover, many Android flagship models offer similar or superior features at significantly lower prices, especially now that Apple's prices have escalated.
While I may remain a loyal iPhone user, I can see how these price increases could sway many towards switching to Android.
Conclusion
Given these three considerations, it appears likely that Apple will face decreased sales in markets outside the US. As an Apple enthusiast, I hope the company reevaluates its pricing strategy in the coming year, allowing me to purchase products at a fair price without needing to travel to the US.
