# The Hilarious Misadventures of Watching a Zombie Show Together

Written on

Chapter 1: The Reluctant Viewer

As I lie in bed, engrossed in a popular series centered around a zombie apocalypse featuring a small-town sheriff from Georgia, my husband, who typically shies away from anything remotely "horror," finds himself bored in another room. He makes his way to the bed, seeking to engage me in conversation. (For context, I'm of Spanish descent, while he is a Native Canadian.)

Husband: "What show are you watching?"

Me: "[Show]. I'm starting from the very beginning again. It’s just a few episodes in. Want a quick recap so you can join me?"

Husband: "Eeeeugh, no thanks. Not interested."

Me: "Alright." Pauses the show "Should I switch it up?"

Husband: "No, that’s okay. I’ll just mess around on my phone."

Fifteen minutes later:

Husband: "So, are there other people out there? They want the guns, but the sheriff guy has them? Why would he just leave them behind?"

Me: "Oh, you'll love what happens next, but let me explain a bit first."

Husband: "No, no, no. I don’t want to know. Forget I asked." Turns away

Later, I glance at the mirror mounted on the dresser and see that he has cleverly positioned his head to catch glimpses of the TV, although from my perspective, it appears he’s focused on his phone.

Husband: "Oh my God, they were acting so tough, but they had their ab-way-lah in there? The sheriff was right! What if they had shot them all?! The poor ab-way-lahs! They'd be all alone!"

Me: "The what?! You mean abuelas?"

Husband: "You know what I mean. I can't pronounce the Spanish sounds. The R comes out as la-la-la-la."

Me: "You mean rrrrrrrrrr." Rolls my tongue

Husband: "Shush! I'm watching the sheriff guy! Who is that? Where are they? How did they make it into the city? Where's everyone else? Aren't there any kids? Wasn’t the sheriff in the hospital?"

Me: "Want me to fill you in?"

Husband: "Yes, please do."
