# Overcoming Stagnation: A Path to Personal Growth

Understanding the Feeling of Being Stuck
Experiencing a sense of being stuck—whether it’s feeling blocked, unproductive, or just off—can be incredibly frustrating. We often know we have the capability to tackle what’s in front of us, yet somehow, progress seems elusive. There are moments when thoughts flow effortlessly, and tasks are accomplished swiftly, but on those challenging days, I find myself pondering, “What’s going wrong?”
Gradually, I’ve come to realize there’s often nothing inherently wrong.
> "Our outputs fluctuate based on various factors such as energy levels, mood, mental health, and confidence, all of which interact with one another."
Acknowledging the Influence of Energy Levels
Understanding this concept was transformative for me. I began to observe how my energy levels impacted my mood and productivity. On days with high energy, I feel confident and optimistic, allowing me to tackle significant tasks without hesitation. Conversely, low-energy days can feel overwhelming, making even the simplest tasks seem monumental.
During these low-energy moments, I would previously criticize myself for being “unproductive.” This self-criticism only drained the little energy I had left. Instead, I’ve learned to focus on my feelings and accept my current state.
What do I require right now? Is it:
- Rest?
- A sense of accomplishment?
- Physical activity?
- Fresh air?
- Nourishment?
Implementing the 3 Things Rule
To navigate these feelings, I utilize my "3 Things Rule," identifying three actions I can take to move forward. I verbalize these actions as follows:
“I need some fresh air and a snack, so I will:
- Step outside for a breath of fresh air (without any time constraints)
- Grab a quick snack
- Open the document for my next writing project (just opening it, nothing more)”
Keeping Expectations Manageable
In order to prevent feeling overwhelmed, I ensure that each task is easily achievable. Sometimes, this means simply stretching for 45 seconds. I avoid setting unrealistic expectations, such as writing an entire article or cleaning my whole house in one go.
I remind myself that all the effort I’ve put in thus far will help propel me forward, and that my energy will eventually return.
What are three small actions you can take at this moment?
