Exploring Brand Growth and Personality: A Monthly Reflection

Written on

Chapter 1: Monthly Muse Recap

As June comes to a close, it's time to reflect on some insightful reads and inspirations.

This month, I delved into a compelling book titled Hacking Growth: How Today’s Fastest-Growing Companies Drive Breakout Success by Sean Ellis & Morgan Brown.

Book cover of Hacking Growth by Sean Ellis & Morgan Brown

Hacking Growth provides an approachable framework for achieving growth through collaborative teams and an emphasis on ongoing testing and adaptation. It parallels the principles of The Lean Startup for product innovation and Business Model Generation for strategic planning. The focus is on customers—how to attract, retain, engage, and monetize them—rather than merely on the product itself.

Section 1.1: Branding Insights

An important lesson I've gathered about branding is to envision your brand as a tree. The trunk symbolizes your core message—solid and unwavering—representing your brand's fundamental promise that remains constant. Surrounding this trunk are the branches, which can represent various themes and activities, sometimes seemingly unrelated. These branches create a plethora of opportunities for customers to interact with your brand, expanding its character and outreach. Hence, it’s vital to keep the trunk strong while allowing the branches to extend widely, yet not excessively.

Subsection 1.1.1: Campaign Inspiration

A campaign that particularly resonated with me this month was “Apologize the Rainbow” by Skittles.

This campaign exhibited a remarkable brand personality, turning negative sentiments into creative opportunities that highlighted the brand’s genuine intentions.

Section 1.2: Inspirational Quotes

A quote that has really stuck with me this month is:

“Different isn’t always better, but better is always different.”

Chapter 2: Ongoing Reflections

As I wrap up my thoughts, I want to share my latest ideas and musings on brand personality.

I’ve come to realize that only two aspects truly matter in branding:

  • What does "Brand" mean to you?
  • Marketers, I invite you to share your definitions!

I also want to express my gratitude to my newest followers: Malik Adeel, Niko Javakhishvili, Ricardo Graça, Bob Miller, Muhammedabubakr, Rustam Seerat, Laura Robinson, and Sawat Jiemjit.
